SMS Demag to Supply Two CVC Cold Strip Mills for Qinghai Ping An Aluminum

Qinghai Ping An Aluminum High Precision Machining Industrial Co. Ltd, China, recently awarded an order to SMS Demag, Germany, to construct two CVC® 6-HS (Horizontal Stabilization) cold strip mills.

The two non-reversing cold mills are to be integrated into a new works in Xining in the province of Qinghai, where they will be used to roll strips of aluminum and aluminum alloys.

The facilities can be used for producing input stock for foil manufacture, finished strip material and also for litho materials with critical surfaces. In view of the wide product range, the facilities will serve as the principal production unit.

SMS Demag’s supply scope for each of the two six-high stands includes a CVC plus (Continuously Variable Crown) shifting system for the driven intermediate rolls, an HS (Horizontal Stabilization) system for the work rolls, and an HES (Hot Edge Spray) system for influencing the strip edges. The rolling mills are completed by two coil preparation stations.

The two cold rolling mills are equipped with all necessary utility systems, an SMS Demag MULTIPLATE horizontal plate-type pressure filter and an SMS Demag AIRWASH exhaust-air purification system for a total extraction volume of 240,000 cubic meters per hour.

The CVC 6-HS Cold Rolling Mill No. 1 will roll 2100-mm wide strips from an input gage of 10 mm to a minimum final gage of 250 μm. The CVC 6-HS Cold Rolling Mill No. 2 will roll 2100-mm wide strips from an input gage of 5 mm to a minimum final gage of 100 μm. The coil weight for both facilities will be 18 tonnes for coil diameters of up to 2100 mm.

Coils will be conveyed to the mill stands by a pallet transport system and then placed in a high-bay store after the reduction passes have been performed.

With this upgrade, Ping An Aluminum intends to move up to becoming one of China’s leading manufacturers of aluminum flat-rolled products and to make products of the highest quality, thus satisfying future demands on both the Chinese and international markets.
