SMS Demag to Supply Two More Cold Mills for TPCO
06/18/2007 - TPCO Yuantong Stainless Steel Ware has awarded an order to SMS Demag two additional 20-roll cold mills, following two initial 20-roll stands that were taken into operation in 2005 and 2006.
TPCO Yuantong Stainless Steel Ware Corp, Ltd., China, has awarded an order to SMS Demag, Germany, for the supply of two additional 20-roll cold mills. Two initial 20-roll stands were taken into operation in 2005 and 2006.
The two new cold mills (No. 3 and No. 4) will be used to hot roll annealed and pickled special-steel (300 and 400 series) strips. Resultant product will posses extremely close thickness and flatness tolerances as well as high surface quality.
The Monoblock stands will process incoming gages up to a maximum of 6 mm to produce strips up to 1350 mm wide with final gages of as little as 0.15 mm. The total drive power is 12,500 kW, allowing the mills to achieve rolling speeds of up to 800 meters/minute.
SMS Demag’s scope of supply comprises the design and manufacture of mechanical equipment and the supervision of erection and commissioning. SMS Demag will manufacture the core components at its manufacturing shop in Hilchenbach. The mill modules will be pre-assembled and comprehensive functional tests will be performed in the workshop to guarantee that the erection, commissioning and commencement of production will all be problem-free.
The new No. 3 and No. 4 cold mills, which represent the next step in TPCO Yuantong’s expansion program, will increase production by a further 160,000 tonnes of high-quality special-steel strip per year.
