SMS Demag to Supply X-Cast Slab Caster for Salem Steel Plant
03/11/2008 - SAIL’s Salem Steel Plant awards SMS Demag a contract to supply a single-strand continuous casting machine for the production of stainless steel slabs.
Salem Steel Plant, , India, a company of the SAIL group (Steel Authority of India), has awarded SMS Demag a contract to supply a single-strand continuous casting machine for the production of stainless steel slabs.
SMS Demag’s scope of supply comprises the detail engineering, mechanical equipment, hydraulic system, and the complete X-Pact® electrical equipment and automation package, including process models.
The X-Cast slab caster will be rated for the production of 140- to 200-mm thick and 600- to 1300-mm wide slabs at a maximum attainable casting speed of 1.5 meters/minute. It will be designed to produce 300,000 tonnes of slabs per year, and will be capable of supporting the facility’s wide range of hot- and cold-rolled and surface-treated stainless steel strip.
Commissioning is scheduled for the beginning of 2010.
