SMS Demag to Supply X-Melt Ladle Furnace, Stirring Station for Corus Staal

Corus Staal BV, the Netherlands, has awarded an order to SMS Demag to supply an X-Melt 330-tonne twin ladle furnace and stirring station for the IJmuiden iron and steel plant in North Holland.
 
With this comprehensive modernization project, Corus Staal intends to expand its range of quality grades.
 
In addition to the ladle furnace and stirring station, SMS Demag’s supply scope also includes such ancillary equipment as the dust-collecting facility, alloy-addition system, and cooling-water system. The order comprises the supply and installation of the mechanical, X-Pact electrical and automation systems, including the technological process models (Level 2).
 
SMS Demag will erect the ladle furnace and stirring station in Corus Staal’s existing oxygen steelworks while production is taking place.
 
Commissioning of the complete secondary steelmaking unit is scheduled for summer 2009.
