SMS group Unveils New State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility
01/22/2026 - SMS group has cut the ribbon on a new 80,000-square-meter workshop in Sanand, India, its second such facility in the country.
In a statement, SMS group said the facility will manufacture processing equipment for flat and long steel, as well as for forging. It can manufacture components weighing up to 125 metric tons and will assemble entire production lines, SMS group said.
The site will complement its Bhubaneswar, Odisha, site, which is focused on machinery and equipment for metallurgy and service, SMS group said.
“With our local presence and reliable, punctual execution, we aim to actively support the government’s goal of increasing steel production to around 300 million metric tons per year,” said Marco Asquini, chief executive officer, region APAC & MEA for SMS group and MD, SMS India Pvt. Ltd.
SMS group said the new facility will support India's industrial expansion and will buttress its own focus on the Indian metals market. Additional capital investments and expansion of the workshop's workforce are planned for the future, it added.
“This investment strengthens our production base in India for plants and machinery and makes us a first-class supplier. It is an important step toward expanding our presence in this significant growth market and actively supporting the industrial upswing in the country,” said Fabíola Fernandez, chief financial officer and member of the executive board of SMS group.
