SMS group Unveils New State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility
01/22/2026 - SMS group announced it celebrated the grand opening of its new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for processing flat and long products and forging technology on 21 January in Sanand, India.
The company said the new 80,000 m2 complex can manufacture components weighing up to 125 metric tons and assemble entire production lines. It is SMS group’s second production facility in India; the two locations intended to complement each other.
“With our local presence and reliable, punctual execution, we aim to actively support the government’s goal of increasing steel production to around 300 million metric tons per year,” said Marco Asquini, chief executive officer, region APAC & MEA for SMS group and MD, SMS India Pvt. Ltd.
SMS group said the new facility is a contribution to the 2014 Make in India program and will reinforce its customer focus. They intend to make additional investments in machinery and recruit additional skilled workers in the future.
“This investment strengthens our production base in India for plants and machinery and makes us a first-class supplier. It is an important step toward expanding our presence in this significant growth market and actively supporting the industrial upswing in the country,” said Fabíola Fernandez, chief financial officer and member of the executive board of SMS group.
