04/22/2011 - Jiangxi Copper and Shandong Xiangrui Copper have each placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of a new Contirod® casting and rolling line.
Jiangxi Copper Co. Ltd. (Guixi City, China) and Shandong Xiangrui Copper Co. Ltd. (Jinan, China) have each placed an order with SMS Meer, Germany, for the supply of a new Contirod® casting and rolling line. They will use their Contirod lines to produce high-quality copper wire rod at competitive prices.
The new wire rod mill will enable Jiangxi Copper to double its annual capacity from 400,000 to 800,000 tonnes. Designed for an output of 60 tonnes per hour, the new line will comprise a newly designed gas control system for the SMS Meer shaft furnace for copper cathode melting and a modular Hazelett twin-belt caster for a casting cross-section of 123 x 70 mm. The line also features a highly flexible 14-stand rolling mill with variable frequency AC drives and integrated coil compacting and foil packing equipment.
With its new line, Shandong Xiangrui Copper aims to produce 320,000 tonnes/year of quality copper wire rod from copper cathodes. Shandong Xiangrui Copper’s Contirod line is designed for a production rate of 48 tonnes/ hour.
Commissioning of both plants is scheduled for May 2012.
