SMS Mevac to Supply Ladle Met Center for OMZ Plant at Kolpino
05/24/2010 - Forpost Management has commissioned SMS Mevac to plan and deliver key components for a ladle metallurgical center that is to be integrated into the OMZ plant at Kolpino. The center will include a 120-tonne ladle furnace and two tank degassing units.
Forpost Management, Moscow, has commissioned SMS Mevac, Germany, to plan and deliver key components for a ladle metallurgical center that is to be integrated into the OMZ plant at Kolpino.
The new ladle met center will comprise a 120-tonne ladle furnace with slewing gantry as well as two tank degassing units (VD and VOD). The new equipment will allow OMZ to produce ingots weighing up to 500 tonnes.
OMZ’s goal for the new ladle metallurgy center is to increase annual steel production up to 600,000 tonnes. Commissioning of the equipment is scheduled for the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011.
SMS Siemag successfully delivered and commissioned an electric arc furnace in 2009, for the same OMZ plant No. 8 at Kolpino.
