SMS Siemag Starts up X-Cast Slab Caster at Salem Steel Plant
11/09/2010 - SMS Siemag has put into operation a single-strand X-Cast® slab caster for Salem Steel Plant, who will use the new slab caster to produce various grades of stainless steel slabs.
SMS Siemag, Germany, has successfully put into operation a single-strand X-Cast® slab caster for Salem Steel Plant, a company of the SAIL group (Steel Authority of India Ltd). Salem Steel will use the new slab caster to produce various grades of stainless steel slabs.
The new slab caster produces slabs in thicknesses of 140 to 200 mm and widths of 600 to 1300 mm at a maximum casting speed of 1.5 meters/minute. The unit is designed to produce 300,000 tonnes of slabs per year.
SMS Siemag’s supply scope comprised provision of the complete caster including all equipment for utilities as well as the complete X-Pact® electrical and automation package, including the process models.
Salem Steel Plant, located in the south of India in the state of Tamil Nadu, produces a wide range of hot- and cold-rolled as well as surface-treated stainless-steel strip.
