Keith Busse Named Steelmaker of the Year at AISTech 2005
19 May 2005 - Keith E. Busse, President and CEO of Steel Dynamics Inc. was named “Steelmaker of the Year” at AISTech 2005 — The Iron & Steel Technology Conference and Exposition, managed by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology. The Steelmaker of the Year Award is presented annually by the AIST to recognize notable leaders and their contributions to the steel industry.

19 May 2005 - The Techint Group has entered into an agreement with Alfa SA de CV in which Techint will acquire Alfa's 42.5% shareholding in Hylsamex SA de CV.
Wheeling-Pittsburgh Announces Management Promotions
18 May 2005 - Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. announced the promotion of Ron Shoemaker, who had been Manager of Engineering, EAF Project, to the newly created position of General Manager, Engineering & Environmental Control. In his new position, Shoemaker will report to Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel President, Harry Page.
AK Steel Announces June Surcharges
17 May 2005 - AK Steel is adding a $213 per ton surcharge to invoices for flat-rolled carbon steel products shipped in June 2005. The company is also adding a $170 per ton surcharge for electrical steel products shipped in June 2005.
Mittal Steel and PA DEP Work Out Reclamation Plan for Former Mine Site
16 May 2005 - Mittal Steel USA has worked out a conceptual reclamation plan with the Pennsylvania DEP’s Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation (BAMR) for an abandoned vertical mine refuse area at the company’s property near Bentleyville, Pa.

Allegheny Ludlum to Increase Tool Steel Prices
09 May 2005 - ATI Allegheny Ludlum will increase the net transaction price for all tool steel products, including Hot-Rolled Annealed (HRA) and Econ-O-Miser™ (Milled and Ground) products. The increase, approximately 5%, takes effect with shipments beginning May 30, 2005.

06 May 2005 - An electrical short in a rolling mill motor has caused a production outage at Ipsco Inc.’s Montpelier, Iowa, facility. Ipsco estimates that the rolling mill outage, which is expected to last six days, will decrease earnings by approximately $0.05 per diluted share for the quarter.

04 May 2005 - Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. announced that it will permanently idle its No. 1 Blast Furnace on Thursday, May 5, 2005. The shutdown will end more than 100 years of service by one of the oldest blast furnaces running in the United States.
