SteelBenchmarker: Hot Rolled Band Prices Turning Up?
06/27/2013 - The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarker™ United States HRB spot price for 24 June 2013 rose 2.5% to US$668 per tonne for the second consecutive time.
The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarker™ United States HRB spot price for 24 June 2013 rose 2.5% to US$668 per tonne for the second consecutive time. The Western European HRB price increased 0.8% to US$606 per tonne (on a Euro basis, it was up 2.0%) after falling nine consecutive times. The Chinese HRB price stayed flat at US$473 per tonne after falling eight consecutive times. The World export HRB price slipped 0.4% to US$537 per tonne for the eighth consecutive time.
In its one hundred seventy fourth report, the SteelBenchmarker released 10 steel product and 3 USA scrap prices. Of these, here are four benchmark prices for hot-rolled band for 24 June 24013:
USA – US$668 per tonne (US$606 per ton), FOB the mill – up US$16 per tonne from US$652 (US$592 ton) two weeks ago, up US$16 from the recent low of US$652 (US$591 ton) on 22 October 2012 and up US$115 from the low of US$553 per tonne (US$502 ton) on 23 November 2009. It is down US$302 per tonne from the recent high of US$970 (US$880 ton) on 28 March 2011 and down US$535 (44.5%) from the record peak of US$1,203 per tonne (US$1,091 ton) on 28 July 2008.
China – US$473 per tonne, ex-works – flat with the price two weeks ago, but up US$26 from the recent low of US$447 on 10 September 2012 and up US$66 from the low of US$407 per tonne on 12 October 2009. It is down US$164 per tonne from the recent high of US$637 on 22 August 2011 and down US$260 (35.5%) from the record peak of US$733 per tonne on 14 July 2008.
Western Europe – US$606 (€461) per tonne, ex-works – up US$5 per tonne from US$601 (€452) two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, it was up €9), and up US$15 (down €4) from the recent low of US$591 (€465) on 12 November 2012 and up US$35 (up €80) from the low of US$571 (€381) per tonne on 23 November 2009. It is down US$246 (€144) per tonne from the recent high of US$852 (€605) on 28 March 2011 and down US$598 (49.7%) (€295) (39.0%) from the record peak of US$1,204 (€756) per tonne on 14 July 2008.
World Export Price – US$537 per tonne, FOB the port of export – down US$2 per tonne from US$539 two weeks ago, but up US$5 from recent low of US$532 on 8 October 2012 and up US$41 from the low of US$496 per tonne on 9 November 2009. It is down US$265 per tonne from the recent high of US$802 on 14 February 2011 and down US$576 (51.8%) from the record peak of US$1,113 per tonne on 28 July 2008.
