steeluniversity Challenge 2009/2010 Ready to Begin

The fifth steeluniversity Challenge, aimed at university and college students and new employees in the steel-industry supply chain, will begin on January 27 and run for 24 hours. This online competition will use the steeluniversity.org website’s secondary steelmaking and plate rolling simulations, to make steel plate for a yellow goods (construction and agricultural equipment) application.

Participants can make an unlimited number of attempts to achieve the given specification at lowest total cost. In the last Challenge, 478 teams from 26 countries took part.

Two prizes will be awarded by the World Steel Association to the best teams in the Industry and Student categories. The results of the Challenge will be announced on February 1.

The Industry winner of the Challenge 2008 was a team from Baosteel, and the winning Student team was from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne.
