Stegra to Deliver Non-Prime Steel to thyssenkrupp Materials Processing

“We are also teaming up with Stegra to support the ramp-up of their large-scale facilities in Boden and their efforts to decarbonize the steel industry,” said Heather Wijdekop, chief executive officer of thyssenkrupp Materials Services' processing business.

Stegra's new steel mill in Sweden will run off of hydrogen produced with renewable energy. While the facility will sell premium green steel with environmental attribute certificates, the non-prime steel going to thyssenkrupp Materials Services will not be considered CO2-reduced.

“A partner for non-prime steel is important for the ramp-up of our steel mill and we see this as the start of a long-term partnership with thyssenkrupp Material Services as a key player in the market. Together we can drive an even stronger pull for steel products made via the green hydrogen route,” said Stephan Flapper, head of commercial at Stegra.

Stegra did not disclose the tonnage under the agreement, but called it "significant," saying it is in the high six-figures.

The companies said the first deliveries are expected to begin in 2027.
