Tata Steel Breaks Ground for CAPL Plant
04/28/2011 - Tata Steel held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 600,000-tonne-per-annum Continuous Annealing and Processing Line (CAPL) Project at the Tata Steel Works, which will produce automotive cold-rolled steels.
Tata Steel Ltd. (TSL) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 600,000-tonne-per-annum Continuous Annealing and Processing Line (CAPL) Project at the Tata Steel Works.
This milestone follows the joint venture agreement signed between TSL and Nippon Steel Corp. (NSC) in January 2011 to set up India’s first CAPL for the production of automotive cold-rolled steels at Jamshedpur.
H M Nerurkar, Managing Director, TSL; S Higuchi, Managing Director, Flat Products, NSC; and Raghunath Pandey, President, Tata Workers’ Union, were present on the occasion along with union office bearers, senior officials, and employees from TSL, NSC, Nippon Steel Engineering Corp., and Larsen & Toubro.
This facility is expected to address the growing localization needs of Indian automotive customers for high-grade cold-rolled steel sheet and contribute to further expansion of the Indian automobile industry.
