Tata Steel Helps to Support Higher Learning for Tribal Students

Tata Steel’s Corporate Sustainability Services has awarded Moodie Endowment Jyoti and Fellowship certificates to 414 deserving students.
 
The scholarships are meant to facilitate higher-level education of deserving students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan districts of Jharkhand. The Moodie Endowment programme takes students from Midnapur, Bankura and Purulia districts of West Bengal in its fold as well.
 
Jyoti Fellowship is a financial assistance programme for meritorious scheduled caste/ scheduled tribe students that was initiated in 1990. The fellowship is open to all SC/ST students who are permanent residents of Singhbhum (East and West) and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts of Jharkhand.
 
Scholarships were awarded during an event that took place at the Michael John Auditorium, with about 304 students receiving the Jyoti Scholarship and 110 students awarded the Moodie Endowment certificate.
 
“I applaud the effort undertaken by Tata Steel toward the social and economic development of the tribal people, especially with respect to education. Students here should make it a point to make the best use of the scholarship awarded and emerge as successful citizens of the country,” said chief guest Sitaram Bari, Deputy Development Commissioner, East Singhbhum, addressing the gathering of students.  
 
Tata Steel also supports the education of meritorious tribal students through Moodie Endowment program, funded by Finlay Moodie and Sheila Ann Moodie of Great Britain. This scholarship supports students qualifying for Engineering and Medical examinations.
