Techint Completes Startup of Process Lines for Mobarakeh Steel

Oct. 2006 — Techint Technologies’ Strip Processing Lines Business Unit recently completed successful startup of three new new state-of-the-art processing lines for Mobarakeh Steel Complex (MSC) Works in Iran.

The upgrade comprised a 300,000 tonne/year corrective line plus a 1,100,000 tonne/year continuous pickling line (CPL) and acid regeneration plant. The lines process incoming steel strip at widths ranging from 560 to 1680 mm and thickness ranging from 1.2 to 5.3 mm.

The new state-of-the-art processing lines meet the requirements of cost-effectiveness, improved product quality and an environmentally safe process, combined with minimized maintenance requirements. The combination of new pickling technologies and regeneration plants for waste pickle liquor makes it possible to operate pickling plants without producing wastewater and pollution.

The overall value of Techint’s contract was higher than 100 Million Euro, and the quota for the coil processing lines equipment more than 50%. Other works performed by Techint under this contract included expansion of the handling of the raw material, the revamping and expansion of steel making electrical furnaces and active panels in the hot strip mills.

This project has recently been selected in the short-list of finalists for the International Project Management Award 2006. It is considered a unique case for the iron and steel industry, due to the overall dimension, different actors and complexity.

Techint Technologies designs and supplies a wide range of equipment and services for the metals and raw materials industries.
