Tenova Goodfellow Completes Installation at Feralpi Calvisano Steelworks

Tenova Goodfellow Inc. successfully completed the installation of a Goodfellow EFSOP® system at the Feralpi Calvisano steelworks (Brescia, Italy) in 10 weeks from receipt of the initial PO and completion of the project kickoff meeting in mid-September.

Project work is scheduled to continue with the optimization phase in January 2010, focusing on achieving electrical savings as well as optimized methane, oxygen, injected carbon, and charged carbon consumption.

The electric arc furnace of Feralpi Calvisano steelworks has a capacity of 93 charged tonnes, and is equipped with three carbon injectors, two door lances, and four burners. The EFSOP system is expected to further optimize this furnace equipment, according to Tenova Goodfellow, for better process performance resulting in cost savings for the client.

EFSOP technology is an off-gas-based process control system for EAFs. It measures and analyzes EAF off-gases (CO, CO, H, O) continuously at the fourth hole for real-time, closed-loop process control of EAF steelmaking.

The Feralpi Group was founded Feralpi dall'intuizione by Carlo Pasini in 1968 who, along with other members, decided to build a new steel complex in Lonato (BS), extending the original family business conduct in Val Sabbia. Established in 1972 and located in the province of Brescia, Steelworks Calvisano extends over an area of 230,000 m2 and mainly produces steel billets, and special quality, namely the semi used primarily for the production of round and reinforcing rods. The company also produces steel billets quality for subsequent rolling or pressing, and through the treatment outside the furnace and a strict control of chemical composition, is capable of producing all classes of fine grain steels.
