Tenova Goodfellow to Supply EFSOP System for RIVA Acciaio EAF

RIVA Acciaio SpA has ordered a Goodfellow EFSOP® process optimization system for their EAF furnace operations at RIVA Alpa, Gargenville, France.

Goodfellow EFSOP technology measures and analyzes EAF off-gases (CO, CO2, H2, and O2) continuously at the fourth hole for real-time closed-loop process control of EAF steelmaking. The new system will help the facility further optimize its EAF operations through increased productivity as well as reduced consumption of electrical power, charge carbon, oxygen, and methane. The new system will also include a water detection feature that will help to provide improved safety within the furnace environment.

The facility’s new EFSOP system is part of the facility’s extensive modernization of its meltshop automation and process control. Tenova will upgrade automation and process control of the 90-ton EAF, as well as modernizing process control for the EAF’s chemical package and adding a new ferroalloy and additives automation package for the EAF-LF. Tenova will modernize the meltshop auxiliaries automation systems, including fume extraction, water circulation, etc., and will also provide a new meltshop supervisory system covering the scrapyard, EAF, LF, and data collection from the continuous casting machine. Tenova will also supply new integrated meltshop networking Ethernet and Profibus bases, and will provide for complete meltshop data collection, reporting and transmission to the RIVA ERP system.

This project follows Tenova Goodfellow’s previous installation of two EFSOP systems at RIVA Verona, Italy, which were commissioned in December 2006.
