04/01/2008 - Tenova SpA installs and starts up a new EAF automation and control system at the Cogne ACCIAI SPECIALI steelworks in Aosta, Italy.
Tenova SpA, Milan, recently installed and started up a new EAF automation and control system at the Cogne ACCIAI SPECIALI steelworks in Aosta, Italy.
Once the existing EAF was shut down on December 22nd, Tenova installed PLCs, the motor control center, and the man-machine interface units. Tenova also installed a specific process control system tuned for the production of stainless steel.
When production was restarted on January 7th, the operation immediately reached full production capacity.
Tenova’s scope of supply also included automation of the scrap yard, and revamping the automation for the ladle furnace and ancillaries, including the alloy system. Tenova was also to supply a “GATE” system to collect data from the steelworks for transmission to the management SAP.
The project is open to future extensions to complete upgrading and integration of the automation systems throughout the steelworks, including the AOD converter, casting pits; fume exhaust systems, and the connection with continuous casting.
Tenova designs and supplies advanced technologies, products and services for the metal and mining industries. Tenova operates close to its customers through a network of 30 companies based in 16 different countries.
