Ternium CEO Urges Greater U.S.-Mexico Cooperation
06/17/2025 - The U.S. and Mexico have a shared desire to promote manufacturing within their borders, a goal that could be realized through greater cooperation on trade policy, Ternium’s chief executive said on Tuesday.
Speaking during the 2025 Global Steel Dynamics Forum, Maximo Vedoya said that to effectively combat global overcapacity and unfair trade practices, like-minded countries ought to work together.
“The key to combat this is not by standing alone,” he said. Vedoya noted that the economies of the U.S. and Mexico are well-integrated, and although the USMCA agreement was a very good first step, more can be accomplished together.
Vedoya also said he believes there is room to incorporate Latin American and South American countries into such a coalition. However, Mexico and Canada must first agree on a revised USMCA. The current agreement is up for joint review in 2026.
Organized by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology and World Steel Dynamics, the 2025 Global Steel Dynamics Forum is taking place Tuesday and Wednesday in New York City.
