01/11/2011 - Tianjin Metallurgy Group Zhasan Youfa Iron & Steel has contracted Siemens VAI to supply a rod outlet that will enable the company to produce high-end rod products with thermomechanical rolling.
Tianjin Metallurgy Group Zhasan Youfa Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. in Tianjin, China, has contracted Siemens VAI to produce a rod outlet for a new high-speed rod mill that will enable the company to produce high-end rod products with thermomechanical rolling.
Siemens VAI’s scope of supply comprises engineering of all rod outlet equipment starting with the second pre-finishing mill to the reform station, as well as supply for critical units of equipment, including a two-stand 230 Vee prefinishing mill, a shear and switch, an eight-stand Morgan No-Twist Mill, four-stand patented Morgan Reducing/Sizing Mill, and pinch roll and laying head. The contract also includes six proprietary mechatronic packages to control key rod outlet equipment operation.
Depending on product mix, the new mill should produce approximately 700,000 tonnes per year with guaranteed speeds of 112 meters per second.
Tianjin Metallurgy Group merged with three other steel companies in the city of Tianjin on July 13 to form Bohai Steel Group. The newly merged companies collectively had about 20 million tonnes of crude steel output last year, which ranks it seventh among China’s largest steelmakers.
This is the third mill that Siemens will build for the Tianjin Metallurgy Group. Commissioning is scheduled for year-end 2011.
