TKS Rasselstein Wins Packaging Award
12/09/2008 - ThyssenKrupp Steel subsidiary Rasselstein and Soudronic AG of Switzerland jointly win the 31st German Packaging Award for a newly developed food can production line that achieves 30% higher productivity than conventional machines.
ThyssenKrupp Steel subsidiary Rasselstein GmbH has jointly won the 31st German Packaging Award with Soudronic AG of Switzerland, a producer of can welding lines.
The two companies received the internationally renowned award from the German Packaging Institute for a newly developed food can production line that achieves 30% higher productivity than conventional machines. The award-winning line is capable of processing ultra-thin tinplate sheet that allows more cans to be produced per ton of tinplate. The lower weight also helps to reduce transportation and storage costs.
Rasselstein and Soudronic submitted a joint entry for the German Packaging Award.
Rasselstein, Germany’s only producer of tinplate, was involved in the development of the new line and provided tinplate material only 0.1 millimeter thick. This tinplate material sets a new standard, as it is 23% thinner than the lightest-gauge packaging steel previously available.
Initially presented earlier this year during the METPACK show, the ultra-thin tinplate is available in a wide range of strengths and is suitable for use both in three-piece welded food cans or, for example, as microwave trays.
