Tornio Works Ramps up Production after Strike Ends

Production at Outokumpu's Tornio Works was affected last week by the Salaried Employees Union strike. Other Finnish companies were also affected by the strike, which was the result of collective bargaining between the Union of Salaried Employees (TU) and the employer association Technology Industries.

The strike started on October 22 and ended on October 26. During the strike, Tornio suspended most of the stainless steel production operations. Deliveries, however, continued from existing stock.

Following conclusion of the strike, production was ramped back up during the weekend, and the mill is now capable of meeting all orders.

The company said that because of the strike’s short duration, direct effects to the Group's results would be marginal.

Outokumpu’s Tornio Works has about 1.2 million tonnes per year capacity for stainless steel finished products, or some 23,000 tonnes per week.
