Trump Adjusts Tariffs on Steel, Aluminum, Copper Imports
06/03/2026 - U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a proclamation which adjusts certain tariffs on imported steel, aluminum and copper.
According to the proclamation, the purpose of the amendments was to better address national security threats; encourage investment in American agriculture, housing and manufacturing; and facilitate U.S. production.
Included in the amendments are tariff adjustments on certain agricultural equipment and other equipment from 25% to 15%. It also expands the scope of industrial equipment subject to the 15% tariff to include mobile industrial equipment, when imported from countries subject to them. Steel racks and aluminum lithographic plates will be added to derivative import products subject to 25% tariffs.
Foreign companies which use at least 85% U.S. melted and poured or smelted and cast steel or aluminum by weight may qualify for a 10% tariff rate.
The tariff changes are set to go into effect 8 June 2026 and expire on 31 December 2027.
