U.S. Steel Shipments Rise 2% from April to May 2014
07/15/2014 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of May 2014, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,398,976 tons of steel products.
This was a 2.0% increase from the 8,235,096 tons shipped in the previous month, April 2014, and a 4.4% increase from the 8,047,245 tons shipped in May 2013. Shipments year-to-date in 2014 are 40,485,323 tons, a 2.2% increase vs. 2013 shipments of 39,595,155 tons for five months.
A comparison of May shipments to the previous month of April shows the following changes: cold rolled sheet, up 2.0%, hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 1.0% and hot rolled sheet, down 3.0%.
