Ural Steel to Install New Vacuum Degasser
07/21/2008 - Metalloinvest subsidiary Ural Steel embarks on the installation of a new vacuum degasser that will help it to increase the quality and volume of its steel production.
Ural Steel has embarked on the installation of a new vacuum degasser construction that will help it to increase the quality and volume of its steel production.
The new 1.2 million tonnes per year vacuum degasser will also allow Ural Steel to launch the production of X-80 to X-100 strips with improved strength characteristics. Detail design and equipment supplies are to be provided by SMS Mevac, Germany, a subsidiary of SMS Group, Ural Steel’s partner in implementing the investment program.
For Ural Steel, the launch of the new vacuum degasser is an important step for improving the quality of its cast billets and plates. Designed to refine liquid steel produced in EAF, it will help to minimize the amount of impurities and decarbonize the final production.
Construction of the unit began this year (2008) as part of a large-scale modernization project implemented at the facility by Metalloinvest Holding with the aim to modernize the Ural Steel production facilities and increase its production volume.
According to the project timeline, construction of the vacuum degasser is to be finished within 3 years, with engineering and documentation works to be accomplished in 2008 and construction works starting in February 2009.
Ural Steel is a subsidiary of Metalloinvest Holding.
