Vinton Steel Selects Tenova for Walking Hearth Furnace
08/27/2025 - Vinton Steel, owned by Kyoei Steel Group, has chosen to sign a contract with Tenova for a state-of-the-art walking hearth reheating furnace at its facility in El Paso County, Texas, USA.
Tenova said the new furnace will be made to meet the process requirements of high-carbon steel billets used to manufacture large-diameter grinding media. It said the product segment is currently experiencing strong demand, especially from the mining sector.
“This new reheating furnace will be the most advanced of its kind, equipped with sophisticated control systems and our proprietary low-NOx burners,” said Francesco Memoli, president and chief executive officer of Tenova.
The furnace will operate alongside the recently announced Green CityMill™ Flex, which will increase rebar production capacity up to an estimated 400,000 metric tons annually.
“We are executing the largest investment in our company’s history, and with this additional project, we contribute even more to the continued growth of the El Paso region,” said Masahiro Kitada, board director and executive managing officer for Kyoei Steel Group and chairman of Vinton Steel.
The reheating furnace and Green CityMill Flex will be commissioned at the same time. They are scheduled for start-up in the first half of 2027.
