VIZ–Stal Implements Modernization Program

VIZ-Stal, NLMK’s Ekaterinburg-based subsidiary, has implemented a supplementary investment program for the reconstruction of a number of its production facilities.

As part of the modernization program, which is worth some RUR190 million, VIZ-Stal will reconstruct the cooling facilities on the production floors as well as a heat-resistant application unit. The company also plans to install metering equipment at the rectifying facilities. VIZ-Stal said the modernization program will result in better steel quality and will also help the company improve its electrical steel competitiveness on the global market.

VIZ-Stal launched a laser jet in July for processing finished products that is helping the facility to improve the magnetic properties of rolled steel by 10 to 12%. The project, which is worth over RUR 120 million, was also implemented as part of NLMK’s Technical Upgrade Program.

VIZ-Stal, a leading producer of cold-rolled electrical steel, is the largest producer of grain-oriented electrical steel in Russia. Its share of global transformer steel production is almost 11%, with a 56% share of the Russian market. Over 80% of its products are exported. The production facilities have an annual capacity of about 200,000 tonnes of electrical steel.

VIZ-Stal is a subsidiary of Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK).
