voestalpine Awarded Contract by Siemens Wind Power

voestalpine Anarbeitung GmbH has been awarded a major contract for the supply of roughly 20,000 tonnes of pre-cut heavy-plate shapes for Siemens Wind Power for the London Array offshore wind tower project in the United Kingdom.

The total sales volume of the contract is in the double-digit million-euro range. The delivery project will last for a period of one year.

The heavy-plate pre-cut shapes are being produced in the shape cutting facility of voestalpine Anarbeitung and will be delivered to Siemens Wind Power for the installation of 106 wind towers, each with a capacity of 3.6 MW.

During the first phase of the London Array project, the wind park will achieve a power output of roughly 630 MW. When completed, the park is scheduled to generate up to one gigawatt of electrical power, enough to supply 750,000 households with electricity. The first project phase is expected to be completed as early as 2012.

This project provides an opportunity for voestalpine to once again demonstrate its growing significance in future-oriented growth markets, according to Adolf Beuer, Head of Sales for voestalpine Anarbeitung GmbH.
