Xiangtan Iron and Steel Turns to Primetals Technologies for MULPIC Cooling Line Upgrade
01/20/2026 - Chinese heavy plate producer Xiangtan Iron and Steel has turned to Primetals Technologies to modernize its multipurpose interrupted cooling (MULPIC) line at its mill in Hunan province.
The company said the upgrade will enhance flatness and mechanical properties for plates up to 350 mm thick. The scope of supply includes the design, supply and commissioning of a new-generation spray system and an overhaul of the level 1 and level 2 automation.
The modernized line will improve the cooling performance for new, higher-value alloys and greater throughput for Xiangtan’s existing plate mill infrastructure, the company said.
The companies said the project is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026 and continue throughout mid-2026.
