Yamato Kogyo: First Japanese Steelmaker to be Certified by GSCC

The company said its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets through 2050 and its road map conform to the GSCC’s standard in line with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

“Yamato Kogyo’s commitment to reach 0.12 metric tons by 2050 exceeds the Steel Climate Standard’s objective and brings ambitious, outcomes-based leadership to one of the world’s largest steelmaking regions,” said Adina Renee Adler, executive director of GSCC.

GSCC said that the company’s submission and subsequent certification were both verified by the Japan Management Association Sustainability Center, one of its approved certification bodies.

“This certification demonstrates to our stakeholders the credibility of our reduction targets and our efforts toward achieving them. We will continue advancing our emissions reduction initiatives and move forward steadily in our efforts,” said Kazuhiro Tsukamoto, representative director, managing executive officer and head of sustainability for Yamato Kogyo.
