06 June 2005 - Nucor Corp. announced that it has completed the purchase of substantially all of the assets of Marion Steel Co. for a cash purchase price of approximately $110.0 million.
Carpenter Technology Adjusts Prices, Surcharge Mechanism
03 June 2005 - Carpenter Technology Corp. announced that its Specialty Alloys Operations unit it is increasing prices 5-10% on all premium melted alloys used in markets including aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical, power generation and oil and gas. The change takes effect immediately.
Steelworkers Renew Strike Mandate at AltaSteel
03 June 2005 - Members of the United Steelworkers' Local 5220 at Stelco Inc.'s Edmonton subsidiary, AltaSteel, have voted 97% in favor of renewing the strike mandate first granted to the local's bargaining committee last September during ongoing contract negotiations. The mandate had been renewed in February.
Stelco Revises Earnings Guidance
03 June 2005 - Stelco Inc. has adjusted its earnings expectations for the second quarter of 2005. The company says that while it continues to expect solid performance from a historical perspective, second quarter operating earnings are now expected to be considerably below the level of the first quarter of 2005. The decrease is attributed primarily to lower spot market prices, higher energy costs and the flow-through of higher-cost inventory produced in the first quarter.

Anshan Isco Starts up VAI Slab Caster
01 June 2005 - Anshan Isco, P.R. China, recently started up its caster CCM1-New in fully-automatic mode. The project is part of Anshan’s plan to relocate the new steel plant No. 3 in two stages. The contract to build two twin-strand casters with a planned total capacity of approximately five million tonnes was awarded to VAI in 2003.
Danieli to Revamp Three Slab Casters at Arcelor Sollac Dunkerque
01 June 2005 - Arcelor recently awarded Danieli an order for substantial revamping of three twin-strand slab casters (CC21, CC22 and CC23) in operation at its Dunkerque facility in France.
Posco sets New World Record for Normalized Blast Furnace Operations
01 June 2005 - Posco has completed the improvement process for its 2nd blast furnace at Kwangyang Works in only 66 days, the shortest time recorded in Posco's history. The blast furnace also achieved normalized operations in only three days from the start of its second-generation operation, setting a new world record.
VAI to Modernize Salzgitter Flachstahl Cold Mill
01 June 2005 - Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG) in Salzgitter, Germany, recently awarded VAI Automation a contract to modernize the complete automation system of its 5-stand Tandem Mill. As part of the contract, VAI will also supply a new Bending System for stands 1 to 4, including a plant safety system.
Harsco Acquires Evulca
01 June 2005 - Harsco Corp. announced its acquisition of Evulca, a France-based specialist with more than 30 years experience providing conveyor belt management and maintenance services to the steel industry and other industrial clients. Terms of the cash acquisition were not disclosed.

01 June 2005 - ThyssenKrupp Tailored Blanks GmbH, Duisburg, and Volvo Cars, Göteborg / Sweden, are stepping up their cooperation with a new service center located on the site of the Volvo plant in Olofström/Sweden. ThyssenKrupp Tailored Blanks Sverige AB, a newly formed subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Tailored Blanks GmbH, will soon supply the Swedish auto manufacturer directly from the new service center.

31 May 2005 - Stelco Inc.’s court-appointed Monitor has filed its thirty-first Report regarding the company's Court-supervised restructuring. The Report provides updated information regarding the mediation process initiated by Court Order on May 19, 2005. The Monitor notes that the mediator, the Hon. George Adams, began holding one-on-one meetings with stakeholders on May 24. That process is continuing.
