AK Tube Plants Recognized for Outstanding Safety Performance

23 April 2010 - The Columbus, Ind., and Walbridge, Ohio, plants of AK Tube have received the Safety Award of Merit from the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International. The award annually recognizes companies for outperforming their industry's injury and illness rate by at least 10%.

29 March 2010 - AK Steel's Ashland, Ky., coke plant has received the Max Eward Safety Award from the American Coke and Coal Chemicals Institute. Employees at the plant worked the entire year of 2009 without a single OSHA-recordable injury.

15 February 2010 - In 2009, the total number of injuries with lost work days in ArcelorMittal Ostrava was nine, compared with a previous 21 injuries. The rolling mills of ArcelorMittal Frýdek-Místek reported no injury with lost work days last year.

Fatalities at ArcelorMittal South Africa’s Newcastle Works

04 January 2010 - Four employees of ArcelorMittal South Africa lost their lives following an accident at its Newcastle plant in KwaZulu Natal on December 30. A fifth employee was hospitalized in stable condition. The employees were working on Basic Oxygen Furnace No. 3 when they collapsed as a result of a suspected gas leak.
