Nucor Restarts Kankakee Bar and Section Mill

04 June 2004 - Nucor Steel Kankakee recently restarted operations on their bar and section mill following completion of a modernization project by Danieli Morgårdshammar. The project included replacement of the existing cooling bed and services for better coping with productivity and product quality requirements.

04 June 2004 - Nucor recently replaced the computer model on the Hickman facility’s hot mill, and modified the control strategy for sequencing the spray cooling system on the runout tables. The upgrade has provided tighter and more advanced temperature control.

Quanex Announces 2nd Quarter Results

04 June 2004 - Quanex Corp. announced record net income of $11.5 million on record net sales of $406.0 million for the fiscal second quarter ending April 30, 2004. Results included three months results from the company's acquisitions of MacSteel Monroe and TruSeal Technologies.

Quanex 2nd Quarter Segment Analysis

04 June 2004 - Vehicular Products Segment—"North American light vehicle builds remained at very robust levels during the quarter and MacSteel's operations ran close to their rated capacity,” comments Jean. “Backlogs in the third quarter remain healthy, although light vehicle inventories at the retail level are a concern. Our Vehicular Products segment also benefited from excellent heavy duty truck production during the second quarter, which continues to outpace year ago figures by nearly 50%.

USS Chairman Comments on Decision to Halt OECD Talks

04 June 2004 - Commenting on the decision by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to halt discussion of the anti-subsidy agreement, United States Steel Corporation Chairman and CEO Thomas J. Usher said, "I would like to thank President Bush and Secretary Evans and their negotiating team for their efforts on behalf of the steel industry in pursuing this anti-subsidy agreement. We, of course, want these talks to be successfully completed as soon as possible. We realize, however, that major changes in thinking by some will be required and this will take time.

CMC Increases Quarterly Cash Dividend by 25%

03 June 2004 - Commercial Metals Co.’s Board of Directors raised the company’s quarterly cash dividend from eight to ten cents per share, an increase of 25%.

Nucor to Acquire Decatur Cold Mill from Worthington

28 May 2004 - Nucor Corp. has entered into an agreement with Worthington Industries, Inc. for the purchase of certain assets of their cold rolling mill in Decatur, Ala., for a cash purchase price of approximately $82 million.
