30 August 2010 - ArcelorMittal awarded to the Paul Wurth Group a design and supply contract for the new “B” furnace and all auxiliary plants that will form the base of capacity expansion at ArcelorMittal’s Monlevade plant in Minas Gerais, Brazil. “B“ blast furnace is scheduled to be commissioned in May 2012.

Gerdau Açominas Selects Tenova to Supply Walking Beam Furnaces
27 August 2010 - Gerdau Açominas and Tenova LOI Italimpianti have agreed upon the supply of two walking beam furnaces for slabs to be installed in the new Plate/Steckel mills of the Gerdau Açominas Plant in Ouro Branco, Brazil. The furnaces will each have a production capacity of 220/265 tonnes per hour.

26 August 2010 - Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH has placed an order with SMS Siemag for the construction of a near-net-shape caster in Peine, Germany. This will be the first time the casting concept has been implemented on an industrial scale, enabling the casting of HSD steels.
Siemens Receives Order from Gerdau Açominas for Rolling Mills
26 August 2010 - Gerdau Açominas has ordered a plate mill and a Steckel mill from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies, to be constructed at Ouro Branco in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A second strand will also be added to the existing Siemens VAI continuous slab caster that initiated production a year ago.

Tata Steel Begins Construction of Gopalpur Industrial Park
24 August 2010 - Tata Steel has broken ground for the Gopalpur Industrial Park in southern Odisha. The company has proposed anchor investments of Rs 1000 crore for a 50,000-tonnes-per-annum Ferro Chrome Plant and a 400,000-tonnes-per-annum Rebar Steel Mill at the park.
SAIL Commissions Second Ladle Furnace at Rourkela Steel Plant
24 August 2010 - Steel Authority of India Ltd. Chairman C.S. Verma has inaugurated the second ladle furnace of Steel Melting Shop-II at Rourkela Steel Plant. The 150-tonne ladle furnace will enhance the production capacity from the current 1.68 million tonnes per annum to 1.85 million tonnes of liquid steel per annum.
Siemens to Supply Water Treatment Plant for New Minimill in Slovakia
24 August 2010 - Slovakia Steel Mills has placed an order with Siemens to supply a water treatment plant to process water for direct and indirect cooling at the company’s new minimill in Strážské, which is designed to produce around 600,000 tonnes of structural steel per year.
