Vale Commences Pellet Production in Oman

02 May 2011 - Vale has started pellet production at its first pelletizing plant of its industrial complex in the coastal city of Sohar, Sultanate of Oman. The US$1.356 billion plant and distribution center will serve as a hub supplying iron ore products in the Middle East, North Africa, and India.

BHP Billiton Approves Samarco Expansion

02 May 2011 - BHP Billiton announced that the partners of Samarco had approved the US$3.5 billion Fourth Pellet Plant Project at Samarco (Brazil). The expansion will increase Samarco iron ore pellet production capacity by 8.3 million tonnes.

29 April 2011 - Hertwich Engineering successfully commissioned a billet saw at Weseralu GmbH in Minden, Germany. During a revamp of the press works, Weseralu invested in a saw for round billets to perform the cutting-to-length operation in-house in the future.

Tata Steel Invests in Cooling at Port Talbot Steelworks

27 April 2011 - Tata Steel has invested £53 million at its Port Talbot works to introduce in the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking plant a new cooling system that will produce steam, allowing electricity to be generated. The investment reportedly will reduce its external power requirements by about 15%.
